well.... I am impressed on how much longer it burns and the huge coal bed I got after the first day.

I go to fill it twice a day and I can't put more than 2 or 3 2 foot logs in it cause there are still lots left from the previous fill.

I will keep you all posted on how well it does when I start heating the greenhouse as last year I was filling every 4 to 6 hours and many times I would get up to an empty firebox and have to start a new fire.

I would say about 10 inches across.

the big stuff I cut into rounds and split for use inside the house in the stove.

my boiler heats our greenhouse mostly but as a way to pay it off I plumbed it into the house and from there I heat water and run a few exchangers and all of this has brought my gas bill way down.

I try and use birch for when it's colder around here, I find it leaves TOO much ash, might not be bad for an OWB though. Anything is better than poplar. Around here I burn as much doug fir as I can, but I have a lot of lodge pole pine.

Poplar is technically a hardwood, but it's not near as dense as fir or birch. Those two are pretty close, but burn way different than one-another.

all I can get is popular for cheap or birch for a bit more .

after that its tire shops for dead treads
