Ok, I am porting a 2171. With the base gasket squish is .042" took it out and I have .029" not too bad I can live with it for now.Once the squish was determined I took off the cyl and started porting the ext. was raised .015 and widened to 65% of the cyl. dia. Intake port was cleanes of any casting flaws. How am I doing so far? this is my first woods mod. I have started to clean up the transfers is this a good idea? Any other tips or things I could or should do before I reassemble?
Thanks
Jim

When you raised the exhaust, did you make the top part of the exhaust port a slight oval shape? If the top of the exhaust port is square, the rings on the piston may get caught on it when the piston is coming up from BDC. An oval shape will help ease the rings back into the groove.

Also, you can widen the intake if you want. Put the piston back on the saw without the rings. Slip the cylinder down over the piston and with a pencil draw the outline of the intake port on the piston. Now slip the jug off and see how wide the intake is relative to where the width of the piston skirt. You can widen the intake out to about .100" (some may go more) from the edge of each side of the skirt.

It does have a sloght oval shape I think it will be ok. I tried to take even amounts off of the ext all the way across so that it would keep the factory shape but just be higher. I will open up the intake also just wasn't real shure about it. Thanks

Got it goin

Well fired up the saw today and did some minor carb adjustments..man what a difference. I only got to try it on some 8" elm but it seems to have made a good difference. Thanks to everyone here for the good posts that led me to do this.
I think the other two are gonna get done too. Does anyone know when the 372BB kits will be available from Bailey's?
