For the purpose of adjusting the carburetor using a tach, does anybody have any technical info on the max rpm for a little top-handle, Poulan 2000?
How about for a Poulan 2250 ( Craftsman 358.352162 ) and a McCulloch MAC160S?
The manuals that came with these saws don't give that information. They advise to adjust the high speed by the way the saw cuts.

You getting into the saw servicing business? How you been?

Roger...saw business? No. I just want to effectively use my inexpensive tach on my little old saws. That and whistlin' "Dixie".

Scott...that 7,500 rpm is the operating speed, isn't it? You know "in the cut". I want to know what speed, on the bench, WOT, with bar and chain. Free spinning...little load...just the bar and chain.

I will check my 1800 and 2000 for you someday without load and 10" and 12" bars. Also have a (I think it was) 2250 inside a 4218 case will check it too. But first the monsoon rains have to stop.

Just use the Dolmar! Or is it a Makita?

Have you learned to play any tunes on that Irish Whistle yet?

Nope, just fiddle with it now and then. Looking to get the 5100 fired up tonight though. Wish I had some wood to cut!

Allways Whistlin' "Dixie"

Ok...thanks. From what I have learned from my brief time here today is that the Poulan 2000 has reed valves and it may not be wise to run it at WOT to adjust the carb. The Mac 160S is piston ported as is the Craftsman 358.352162 ( which I believe is a Poulan 2250 ). I have seen a reference to the 2250 of max speed free wheeling with bar and chain to be 12,500. What about the Eager Beaver ( 160S )?
