I bought this used chainsaw. I don't have an operators manual. I Have a hard time starting it. When trying to start it, if it doesn't catch right away it floods. When it does start it doesn't have power under load, chain will stop. Any suggestions? How do I adjust carburetor? Thanks for your advise.

Carb adjustment- initial adjustment of low and high speed mixture needles is 1 turn open from a lightly seated position.
Make final adjustment with engine running at operating temp.
Adjust L needle so engine will accelerate without hesitation.
Adjust high speed mixture needle to obtain best performance under cutting load. Do not operate saw with high speed mixture setting to lean (needle turned to far clockwise) as engine damage could result from lack of lube and overheating. The H needle shouldn't be set less than 3/4 turn open from lightly seated position. Adjust idle speed screw so engine idles just below clutch engagement speed (chain doesn't turn).

Don't know if this is any help or not. I believe that is the same saw as a Craftsman 358.354870. You can view exploded parts diagrams and/or order an owners manual on sears dot com. One of the problems with Pouls is they used bad fuel lines that fall apart. You may want to check your fuel lines for integrity. If they are falling apart, you may have low fuel flow, air in the fuel lines or pieces of the fuel line in the carb. That is what happened to me.

Thanks for the info and tips. It will be a week or so before I can get back to working on this saw. I'll let you know how I make out.

The air filters were poorly designed on this model, so dirt ingestion is likely.
Pull the muffler and look for damage, and also check the crank for
a lot of slop.

What was wrong?

I have the same model, and what went wrong with your's would be of interest to me.

I have one that is currently in about a gazillion pieces. I was gonna go through it and re-build it but have decided against it. If any of you guys need any of the parts just let me know.

David see the postings under Poulan 3400 now on about page 8. In fact you replied with helpful info telling me this model was same as Craftsman 358.354870. All details of my problem are posted but basically it would not start and if it did start it had no power. Main problem was the carburatur was out of adjustment. Thanks.

Do you have the poulan 3400 counter vibe because if you do I can't find parts for mine anywhere and I'll take the whole thing
