Oil cap finally gave up the ghost this afternoon, snapped an ear off.
Anyone have a cap or know of a source for a good oem replacement?
Thanks!

I do have one, but it is my last one so I should probably hold on to it. Has a part # of 10175 on it. I suspect you may still be able to get it from Poulan.

Jeez, I don't know why I didn't even think of them as an option. Thanks for looking, and for the suggestion.

Thanks for the tip, may be at Sears later this afternoon and will see what they have. I guess I could make a rubber stopper work too in a pinch until I find something, but this was my first brand-new saw I bought when I was a pimple-faced high school kid back in '80-'81 something like that, and call me sentimental but I'd like to put an original cap back on there. Just thinking out loud...

Poulan website is a joke.

Was at sears yesterday but boy those salesmen must be starving because as soon as we walked in the door they all started moving toward us like zombies in some sci-fi thriller, so we just kinda steered clear and headed off in a different direction.

Just finished ordering one through searspartsdirect.com, 17 bucks shipped. While I'm sure it'll do the job, I'd like to find a NOS or even good used one so if anyone out there has one they'd let go of, or has a lead on one you could send me, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for your help Gary.

So, got a message from searspartsdirect that the cap is no longer available and they don't list any substitution. Back to square one...

I get that there probably aren't a ton of these laying on the shelf somewhere, but if anyone has one they'd be willing to part with, or know of a solid source for one, I'd sure appreciate your help.

Thanks!

Thought I'd struck gold, as it turns out I'm still on the search for this darn cap.

Nic, if you have a direct link to that I'd sure appreciate it. The only thing I see when I go to the 4400 page at ereplacementparts is that the part is discontinued, and even then they show the 10175 number as being for a different saw.

Wondering at this point if a cap from another make saw will fit. Frustrated, shouldn't be this hard to find this dang cap.

Thanks for your help Guys, I appreciate it.

I went to a former dealer today who still has some parts in stock and struck out. I have one more place to try tomorrow.

Thanks for beating the bushes for me, Gary. Hard to believe there aren't a ton of them out there, somewhere.

I was on my way at lunch to check on another source and had to go back to work. Will be the first of the week as I am in Louisville tomorrow.

Finally had a chance to go by the other old Poulan dealer and they showed one in stock. The counter man could not find it so he asked another guy. Found out they cleaned out all the old Poulan parts to make way for new Toro stock...

Found a cap, thanks everyone who posted and those who PM'd. Y'all have a good weekend!
