Poulan Pro PP5020AV Bogs Down

My Poulan 5020 starts easily and runs great -- until I actually put it to the wood. Then it bogs down and hardly has enough power to pull a greased gumdrop out of a baby's mouth.

This is a recent development. So I cleaned the air filter and installed a new chain, but to no avail. It still bogs down. Any ideas? Could it be the carburetor adjustment?

May be lean on the H screw. Try an 1/8 Turn CCW = richer. IIRC, this carb needs a splined tool.
Marginal compression can also cause poor running under load.

Do the 4 bolts on the bottom of the crankcase also go into the cylinder on this model? Look and see if those are loose,
maybe 1 missing. Also look at where the carb mounts....

The saw is relatively new and doesn't have many hours on it.

Loose screws don't care about age....

Easy to take the muffler off and peak at the cylinder. Should look shiny and new. Takes 5 min tops.

Looking at the bottom of the saw takes even less time. I would ask for pics, but I'll wait and see if he comes back...

Ehh, anything could be loose. Check the spark plug too while your at it.

My wife has always been a tad loose, now that you mention it...
Let me check that too...

Harley your suppose to check if they have a screw loose before you marry them, but i think I rattled a few loose on my wife over the years

I would say the saw broke in and its now out of tune, but really listen to these guys because it doesnt matter how new or how little time a saw has, it doesnt take long to fry the piston if it leaned out.
