In your case the first thing I would do would be to clean the points. Just take some #400 automotive sandpaper and go between the points with it a few times. Then clean all the debris off of them and check the gap. Gap should be around .015" Should be all you need for the ignition, assuming the condenser is okay..
 
Don’t use ether. Washes off the oil film lube inside. I learned by ruining a beat up S25, before I knew the root issue was rings and compression, and eventually caused more bearing damage with ether.
