 Received a Poulan 2300CVA about 15 years ago as a gift, so I can't really look at the horse that gave it to me, in the mouth. Problem is, it has been hard as hell to start since the day I first cranked it. I have used it maybe 5 or 6 times, and it has been sitting for probably 8-10 years in it's plastic case. I drained the gas recently, put fresh gas & oil in, replaced spark plug and ZIP-nothing. Took it apart and found the fuel line rotted into 5 or 6 pieces, and the air filter had turned to crumbs. Replaced both, poured a little gas in the carb. & it sputtered a few times & crapped out. I am killing myself trying to get this thing started AND KEEP it running, but have had enough. Can anyone offer advice (other than using it as a wheel chock). Carb adjustment maybe? Thanks!

Well sir,you have a poor old saw that has been orphaned by a previous owner. The carb is in need of a rebuild kit[cheap, cheap cheap]The diaphragms are all gunked up with gas mix that is like 90 wt oil.

Run a search on carb rebuild, there is a lot of good advice on it here, just take your time and do it right the first time, if you dont you will only be tearing it apart a second time.

8-10 years with gas in it

Perhaps it needs the carb gone through........

Take your time, do it right & it ought to run like new.

Be sure to adjust it properly on the Hi side so you dont cook it.

Lots of good info & advice on this site. Dont hesitate to ask.

Kudos to all of you pros- consensus is carb overhaul. I previously found a reference website with exploded, although somewhat distorted, views. It is:
http://www.odref.com/poulan/pdf/poulan/gas-saws/2300cva.pdf

Will get on it first thing in the a.m. & grazie!
(By the way Al, it was given to me new. Therefore, I am happy to report it was not orphaned, but neglected instead- not that there is much difference between the two, unfortunately).

its not a perfect saw, but it IS a decent homeowners machine. I had a few of em, but I got rid of those, and have pro saws now.

Wanted to update y'all on my progress. Dismantled carb, and all parts looked like new- no oil or gas deposits, etc. Reassembled, primed carb, and same thing- cranked & ran for 2 or 3 secs. & choked out. Tried adjusting H & L needles, and nothing. Having enough of this BS, I took it to a local small engine repair shop. Dude adjusted carb until the green monster roared at high and idle speeds. Sold me new air filter & gas cap, and asked me if $10 sounded fair for the parts & labor. After I stopped laughing, I slapped a Hamilton in his palm, and raced home. After surveying the job I have ahead of me, I put the saw in the garage, and decided to jump on it tomorrow.

Thanks to all of you for your assistance.
