Helmet for climbing.

I am looking at either the Vertex Best or the Petzl Elios and wanted to know your thoughts on those two. You can suggest others but I am primarily interested in info on those.

I like the Vertex b/c you can attach ear muffs. But it is over twice the price of the Elios and I can just use ear plugs with Elios. Any thoughts from you guys?

Second question:

I wear glasses. Any safety glasses recommendations? What do other guys do? (Other than get contacts).

Thanks!

Between those choices, I would definitely go with the Vertex. Isn't the other one a rock climbing helmet?

And I would go with the Peltor (3m) ear muffs. For comfort and durability. They are kind of heavy and will kind of throw off the balance of the helmet while you're not wearing them. But less of a pain than ear plugs..

The Petzl helmets now come with those goofy eye shields don't know if those fit over glasses.....

I think you can get prescription impact resistant safety glasses. But they're expensive.

Most guys I have seen either chance it with the regular glasses or get contacts.

Whatever you choose, your brain and eyes are quite important and you don't get second chances. Try different stuff until you find something you can live with. A lot of guys end up with a PPE collection.

Check out prescription safety glasses at Sams Club vision centers. They had a good price of like $50-60 when I last looked.

The Elios is a climbing helmet ... but Wespur had it listed on its' site (comes in a kids size and adult size) which first got me looking at it.

Not a fan of those eye shields either. The glasses I use work pretty well ... they just don't fit close enough to keep dust out. Thought about either a Stihl or Husky forestry helmet ... anyone else climb with one of those?

I have a vertex vent with the screen/rain guard and the ear muffs. It is very comfortable. W/e you choose make sure it's a climbing helmet. The others are not designed for side or rear impact and in the event of a fall will fly off as they do not have a chin strap.

I have a Vertex Best its decent, plenty comfortable, but I only bought it because it was on sale for $79... other then that I would go with the Vent.

My first climbing helmet was a Vertex Best, I had to get the solid shell version for work near electrical hazards.
