I have been toying with the purchase of a Predator 28 Stump Grinder and importing it to the USA. I Like the physical size of the unit versus horsepower versus wieght and ability to get through narrow gates.

However there are no units here in the States to look at or discuss reliability with thier owners. I am hoping that some of you guy's across the pond that use or have used this unit will chime in and give me a clue to its dependability and operation.

Thanks in advance

Since you are in Calif., those machines probably can not be operated their, due to emissions regulations. Better check on that first.

Thanks for your posts. The 28 HP Lombardini is approved in California so thats not a problem. I own 3 Alpine Magnums and have used them since 1996. Love them to death. And as far as buying in the USA, no one builds a compact track unit that will go through a 28" gate. We have a lot of tight areas in So Cal. Keep them posts comming I would love to hear from you guys that have have run this unit. I am guessing , but that track drive unit sure looks like the JCB Micro Excavator unit.

Have you found out any other info on that stumpgrinder. I'm interested as well. I also use the Alpine but only if I have to. I'm wondering if that machine would be a better replacement for my 252. I also use the SC60TX and carry those three machines as well as a little sc90 everywhere I go but wondering if maybe that predator would be a way of getting ride of that sc90(terrible machine) and replacing the 252 with a small but higher hp machine.

Yes I have found a used one with low hours. We are working out the shipping info as we speak. There are at least 2 problems I will have to resolve after I receive the unit (28 days by boat). The electric clutch ( Warner unit ) fails at about 50 hours, I plan to replace it with an Agoura Clutch and the final drive belt is cogged which makes it expensive and prone to stripping if worked to hard. I Have a Engineering and Manufacturing background that helps resolve these kind of issues. I will be replacing my 4,400 hour SC252 Diesel with the Predator.

Unit I found has under 100 hours. Looks like approximatly $15,000.00 US Dollars landed in Southern California.
