my drill instructors ingrained into me the true meaning of attention to detail

I know what you mean, it is not just a bootcamp thing. I was a Fleet Marine for most of my 8.5 years and no matter how Ef'd up a third world place was it had to be better then we got there when we left.

I had a buddy, a while back, who I would kid that he should charge extra for the lawn dethatching after his raking, what-with all the dead grass in the rakings (Yes, I know that is not want true dethatching is)

"They may not know what a good prune job looks like, but they sure know a bad cleanup!"

Hey Steve! You coming up for the Expo?

"Wood Chipper and Truck is $85.00 every hour with one person no less than 4 hrs. "

$340 minimum for chipping.

I do not bait and switch. My carpet cleaning competition does all the time. What they don't tell you in the ad is that they will not remove stains for the advertised price. Also they upsell post sprays, alergen reducers, moving furniture, and often a trip charge. I too have never heard this about tree companies. But how can a flat rate work out for a tree service unless it's ungodly high. I assume that your reply wasn't intended as an insult.
No insult, intended, sorry I was just in a bad mood yesterday thats all.

Ya.what if I did?LMAO you think thats bad..my help hates me when it comes cleaning the yard when it all done..one leaf, one branch..any saw chips..their job isnt done until the yard is spotless..my drill instructors ingrained into me the true meaning of attention to detail...time and time and time..and time again..LOL

Does the wife get angry when you bring the Electrolux to the job to vacuum the grass?

If the boss wants me to pick up every piece of sawdust, no problem. I'm paid by the hour. It's his profit that's affected. Its the dilemma that every great painter has with a new painting - when to stop.

Military drill instructors don't have to worry about productivity and profitability.

That is where the blower comes in, if you do not redistribute all the little piles, they will kill the grass.

A sign of good management is to communicate what the client is paying for, both to the client and to the crew. Some may want the job to be "cut and carry" so that the impact to the landscape is minimal, others will want to do the fine cleanup themselves to save cost.

I agree with JPS..if the customer wants me to cut and drop...then thats what I'll do..but if its a complete haul off..I figure I owe it to the customer to leave their yard in pristine condition..I like to always go the extra mile to ensure complete satisfaction..and yes JPS..my handy little blower does wonders..I'm not talking about vacuuming everything..I'm talking about breakin up all the little piles of saw chips and the like..if I just spent X amount of money for tree work..I know I'd be a little upset if they didnt pick up everything that might dull my mower blades..thats all I was getting at..
I even have a 5 question survey I send to every customer rating their satisfaction and if they'd call me back...or recommend me to someone else..its just a way to let em sit back and rate how we did..I usually get prolly 7 out of 10 mailed back..

And the whole productivity and profitiability issue..if you do a half assed clean up job..and they bad mouth you to say 5 ppl..how much money might it cost you in the long run..as opposed to them telling that same 5 ppl how great work you do? I dunno..I can justify it..

That's hilarious. It sounds like it was written in a different language and translated into English:
