Ok so this is simple for most of you guys. But I'm not as old as you guys with as much experience(worked as groundie on my cousins crew). I have an idea of how to do this but since it's still attached I'm not sure.

I've read about this before where a tree was hung up on somethin where you cut from the bottom in 3 foot sections or so till it falls. But its still attached. Then a pole saw ran across my mind. And I'm not gonna get on a ladder with a chainsaw. O yeah, and this fell in the night. I was kindly woken up by the sound of a chainsaw revving and a diesel truck running early this morning. It was covering the street so the city came by and cut what was in the street. Thanks. Evan

I would climb it. But you can make an up cut in the center and let it break off with its own weight, that works.......... sometimes.

You can chunk a hung tree in sections and it kind of "steps" down until it falls. However... it is an extremely dangerous job to do. The chance for junk fallin' out of the tops and hurtin'/killin' you are high. Not to mention the different stress loads put on the spar and upper portions of the tree. No tree should ever be left "hung" in a populated place.

That's why I'm tryin to get it down. And I'm not sure about what you mean when you say up cut. Gas are you sayin don't try the chunk method? Thanks. Evan

From looking at the picture, if it were me I would be tempted to go up into the tree on a ladder with a small bow saw and a hatchet and drop that limb. The limb hanging down doesn't look that substantial, unless the picture is deceiving. Just make sure the area below is clear.

Not unless you know what you are doin'... You can get hurt easily, if you have never done it before. If you aren't familiar with readin' compression and expansion (flex) of wood... I would have some one else do it for ya.

I can't see the picture for some reason... so I might be barkin' up the wrong tree... pun intended.

That one is pretty easy. I would secure an area all around it for safety, Hook up to it with one of my trucks, and pull it down to terra firma! That little guy can be yanked down and cut on the ground without hurting anything, and thats exactly what your town road crew should have done. Just make sure your chain/rope is twice as long as your limb. You can climb up and trim the trunk nicely after the limb is gone!

Except the tree. By yanking it out, you run the risk of tearing the bark down the side of the tree, creating a much larger wound. Think of it as the difference between the doctor amputating an arm by cutting it off cleanly or yanking it off with his truck.

I would have it climbed without spikes and removed properly and have that large stub cut back to the collar at the same time. Curious as to why the town didn't take that when it appears they were obviously up there to cut back the larger limb, improperly it appears.

Thats enought to sting a bit, but not likly to kill ya! Get a ladder and a bow/hand saw. Cut up from the bottom about a quarter of the way, or half of whats left of the holding wood. Tie a rope as high as you can, and have a buddy/you're wife, pull on the rope while you cut down the rest of the way. Have them pull it towards the street.

The danger with a leaning tree is all the weight is up high and pushing the stump. When it can, it will come back at you. With this situaion, all the weight is leaning on the tree, and will fall as straight down as it can. The prblem, as others stated, is earing of the bark, leading to disease of the tree.

I tried the calling the city but they didn't do anything. I just chunked it down. It wasn't heavy enough to break what wood was holding it so I cut the big section back to where it didnt touch the ground. Then used an axe to cut the little one holding it up then it swung and hit the tree. Then I took a big rope and pulled it by hand and it snapped off. I don't have a truck(yet). That was my friend that cut the big one back but he runs a tree crew and wouldn't be able to get over till tomorrow. The whole tree is starting to die I think. Gonna have my friend(certified arborist) come and look at it again. He didn't look to closely just cut the big one which was starting to die and I didn't want it falling in the street. Don't know how safe my method was but I dropped in my yard, didn't even touch the street. I was thinkin of dropping it in the sidewalk callin the city up to see what they say:hmm3grin2orange: . Thanks for help. Evan

Sorry I'm out of rep for all the guys that gave advice.
