It does seem odd the change things after some time. We still don't know what type of cert. the employer is requiring.


My ex-boss did pay for ISA and chapter dues plus the cost of the exam. He might have paid half time to take the test, but I can't remember. He didn't pay for my standard driver's license, but did pay for medical cards and CDLs.
I never took advantage though and now that I'm independent, I'm paying for the arborist exam myself.
 
I could pass the test easy. But i was told by the president of the ISA texas chapter that it was useless. I am taking my arborist cert. in sept, and he said that the texas chapter doesnt even recognize the tree worker certification. So its kind of a waste of money

Amtrak pays for my license...when the feds came up with the CDL stuff,,,nobody could drive any of the big trucks....they lost all their drivers...nobody was going to pay out of their pocket to be a truck driver...
in NJ, you could drive any thing on a auto license, except a semi...you needed a artiqualted attachment on your paper.. now with the new regs..you need a DOT medical card for any thing over 10,000 LB...CDL over 26,000LB
auto license $12.00...class B CDL $60.00,,, DOT physical $300.00
damm straight i expect the company to pay for it!!!!
 
I can't believe they are charging $300 for a DOT physical (where you are), which requires far less testing than a regular full physical. I just had my DOT physical and renewed my CDL this past April. The physical was $40 and the license renewal for the next 6 years was $30.

That's a pretty good one. I wonder if it works both ways. Perhaps I can tell my employer I can no climb do to my lack of certification. Let's see where that goes. You don't need certification but you do need to walk the walk.

With just three years under his belt? That would be a tough sell. You need more then one client to make it work. For me it's 3 regular and 4 occasional. (and that's been thin lately too, seems like the only jobs that are selling are small and a number of the ones that do fall through at the last min. Todays was canceled on Saturday and tomorrows canceled on Sunday :cry: )

As for the employer, it may be that they are getting a deal from thier insurer on having all certified climbers. I've never heard of this happening, just a wild guess.

To be the devils advocate, have they said anything else to you? Could it be the quality of your work, are you junior man and they may be needing to cut a guy loose....?
 
i work for the State of Texas, they have never had any climbers.....i have been climbing with them for almost a year.....and now they are pushing the certification test......im not going to waste my money.......problem solved i have a job with James Tuttle former ISA Texas Chapter President......finally somone who knows what they are doing :blob2:
