the chain binds on a side of the cutter bar and wont rotate, despite the chain loose and soaked in chain oil, chain isnt backwards, chain has been thrown several times when pruning trees so maybe chain and/ or bar is damaged, will try to widen out pathway on bar where it jams, any suggestions?

next, mac eager beaver 2 inch CID
centrifigual clutch now takes up too soon so engine cant idle or be started, can the clutch be adjusted to back the take up off and how, nothing obvious when I looked at it was there any lining in the clutch or is it always metal to metal?

thanks

On the Mac clutch, it does not have a "lining", it's metal to metal. Sounds to me like perhaps you've got a broken or weak clutch spring. If the drum spins freely when the saw is'nt running it almost has to be a spring problem I would think. I'd take it off and check it out, might also be some dirt or something between the clutch center and the drum. Matt

I think I have the same little mac as you have and when I start to see the chain creep at idle. I clean the clutch with brake clean and compressed air seams like those little coils get packed with chips and get stuck in the out position. Then she will work fine for a long time. I have had that little saw for over 14years 3 bars, lots of sprocket and it sees all my dirty little jobs that I really should'nt be using a chainsaw for!

Sounds to me like you have a bent link in your chain. Lay the chain down on a flat surface and look for daylight from underneath. Where you see the space is where she's bent!
