I'm after a Oregon®-Professional 3/8"-Pitch Semi Chisel chain for my Jred 2171, and the chain in the photo is a 72LPX, it's this type of chain I will get. But what is the right # for the Semi Chisel chain?
And what are the difference in this chains, 72, 73, 75JP/LPX (SUPER 70)?

70 series refers to the cutter type. the difference between 72, 73 or 75 is pitch and gauge. I believe JP is skip, but not sure. Someone will be along shortly to help you. Check with Amicks, site sponsor. He regularly has Oregon chain on sale.

as of now there is only DG or DP no X class chain in semi chisel 70 series maybe someday but not today.

need a life

Mag58 you need a life if chainsaw chains are in your dreams........:dizzy:

You should be dreaming about chainsaws only! Like me:hmm3grin2orange:

I'd get the Oregon 72LGX and not LPX...It cuts faster.

Well, dang. I thought the LPX was semi-chisel, I know the Oregon site recommends it for dirty conditions. I've even got a loop, but haven't opened the box yet, will have to go out and compare it with the LGX, which I like really well so far.

THe battle between 72LGX and 72LPX. We only stock the LGX but we know that there's tons of guys using LP style chain. In some areas it prevails in sales. It's a regional thing. We will special order it for anyone who likes it at the same price as 72LGX. Just let us know. As for what Oregon is doing, they are coming with new chains and this is not the end of it as they will be working on even some new things we can't talk about yet. They are the market leader in sales and they are looking to go after the aftermarket sales with this new chain For Dealers Only? Who knows, but for now this chain has been sold only by the dealers. Way to go Oregon.

I have used dual raker and single raker Semi Chisel and I think they are cutting almost the same, the difference I'v seen is that the dual raker are a little bit slower in bore cut but are a smoother cutting chain, and I like the Semi Chisel from Oregon. There is mush dirty wood around here, so when I use Chisel chain, like I have on my Jred 2171 now, they dull to fast.

Unless you're stuck on Oregon, Carlton's EP-series is semi-chisel or the S series is Chipper-style according to their website. I put a loop of their .325 semi-chisel KC on my Shin but haven't put it to wood yet. I was running Oregon 72DP semi-chisel on my Mac 655.

Now I'm only stuck on Jonsered :D and on them there are Oregon chain's. I'm using "Outdoor accessories" chains on my other saw's and this chain is Carlton C-BL .050 .325 Semi Chisel (NK) and I think they are good chains, but you can't "trim" them so mush that you can do whit the Oregon chain, the Carlton chain snap off easily when "trimmed" a bit.

I which we could get .058 Stihl chain here, but the importer pretend that they don't exist in 3/8".......:bang: :bang: :bang:

You should go to the American Stihl web site, print out the information and show it to him. The look on their face is priceless when you show them things that don't exist. My local hardware store (oops I mean dealer) has recently learned all kinds of new things. :D
