Hello all,
I just have a curiousity question. Anyone using pto driven chippers that go on the 3-point hitch of a tractor? I have considered this, considering I would have a chipper and loader in one machine. The chipper is a salsco and is a 10" I think. thanks logan

I have one for my tree service . I went with a smaller size only a five inch chipper . I sell firewood so anything bigger get used for that. It works just fine. Sometime room is an issue . We have alot of cabins in the area . Small driveways or long ones . We try not to park on the road cars don't slow down much. But I have no problems.

A mounted chipper is so manouverable compared to a trailed, If the ground is soft the tractor will cope much better and make less mess that a narow tyred trailed chipper.
I would have thought that if you had a tractor already a mounted chipper would have to be cheaper than buying one with a engine.

I have a Jinma pto chipper which will take up to 6". Any thing over 3" I use for fire wood most of the time. It is power feed with one roller and does a good job for me. The chipper is mounted on a 30 hp Kioti LK3054 with a set of forks on the front. This set up works out good for me I can get to places I would not be able to with a truck and chipper. For most jobs I use only one ground person when he is not chipping he can be loading or moving the big stuff all with one machine. If I have a job that requires a bigger chipper then I rent. A matter a fact the Kioti is the best employee I have ever had. Its never late for work. It never complians about any thing I ask it to do. Works hard. And it works as late as I want to, all i have to do is feed it:). Salsco are well made units if I could have afforded one at the time I would have one. They are very pricey.

I hear you on that one. I have never priced one though. Sounds like a great setup. Have you ever considered a grapple for the loader?

Yes a grapple is in my future. It would help greatly although the forks do a good job also. I have also seen a company that makes a thumb for the forks. Sometimes it can be challenging moving brush and holding a load.

Just wondering if you have any brands in particular for a PTO chipper that you would suggest over another? I am looking into one myself, don't need to go too big, I too try to get rid of firewood size stuff. 6" would be plenty big I think.:greenchainsaw:

I've got a valby CH 170 w/ hydraulic feed. Can't compare it to any other pto driven chippers, but I would certainly suggest it. Anything I can't feed this chipper is firewood size.
