On the way home from picking up my daughter from 4K, there was an Asplundh truck going down a dead end road, so I followed, he was just picking up another tree guy. What was so nice though, is there was a pile of logs way off to the side, so I looked around and there was a muni type building in the distance, no one outside, doors closed, but someone had just pulled up and went in, so I went in the same door, sheepishly, and it was lunch time but the guys didn't run me out, they did verify the log pile was for anyone to take from.
Now, even though I've missed the last 5years of storms and such, I'll be stopping by there after school fairly regularly just to check it out, what's there now is mainly 30"+ poplar and silver maple trunks that had quite a few limbs growing out of them, so the saw would be the splitter for that mess.
There is one log, silver maple, that could be milled into framing lumber for a woodshed, if I get it before it's gone that'll be nice to use next summer.
The driver of the bucket truck was nice enough to give me a name to call to get some free wood too. So today was a lucky day, until my splitter start cord snapped back into my knuckle, ouch.
On an unrelated note, sort of, there was for sale, a Dodge dually that someone had put a dumpbed on with recent hydraulics, the bed was about 5'x9', and had a Western plow on the front, the truck was 2wd and had only 41K miles on it, a 70's or 80's model, $4500, appeared to be in pretty good condition.
There was an 8' grey ford truck box too, $100 obo, that would fit my crushed van. Might call on that after doing some measuring.
