Well I have been saw shopping for about a year. Well after burning up my little Husky 435 it is time for a real saw capable of cutting the 7-10 cords of firewood a year. I was looking at the 545 but for $60 more i opted for the 550xp. There were a few other options I liked more and the dealer didn't push me one way or another. He only sells higher end (non big box store) saws and for obvious reasons. I like my 435 and will be rebuilding it and using it for light limbing and clearing shooting lanes for my treestands. The 550xp seems like a nice saw and the auto tune already has it running way better in the cut than my older saws. I really like it and haven't had any issues. The dealer had me buy the 3 cans of husqvarna canned gas for the 4 year extended warranty threw in a scabbard and extra 18" chain. He offered to put any size bar and chain I wanted and was going to go with a 16" bar but he said that it would turn the 18 no problem so I went with the 18. I bought a 16" bar to run the 16" chains I have from the 435 but either way. I didn't some killer deal but paid $570 for the saw, extra chain, and scabbard. I only run non eth and husq premium oil through all my saws so I am hoping this saw will last a while.

I don't know Husqvarna saws so won't comment.

The Husqvarna oil doesn't seem to be very well regarded. There's lots of oil threads, might want to read through a couple.

Good luck with the new saw.

Good to know I'll look into it thanks!

I want another brand new saw but one thing I really want again is a xpg heated handles.

I never had a day off from cutting because a husky saw didn’t run. That’s dependable for many decades.

I been using the Husqvarna 2T oil forever since 1979. Never a problem even with the 50:1 pre mixed can stuff.

I’m wondering if in the quart cans of mix if anyone shakes the can first to mix up the oil again. It does separate from the gas when it sits. Even our mix in the 5 gallon can separates in time.

It’s not just chain saws even our dirtbikes get shook up too.

Take what you read in oil threads with a grain of salt. Lots of assumptions, opinions, guesstimates, and BS. There is over 1000 pages between 2 forums and they’re still chasing their tail.

Agreed, but some review can offer insight into what's out there and well thought of. For example, currently Red Armor seems a good choice. I'm still using Mobil 1 Racing 2T which was highly regarded before they stopped selling it in the U.S.

I'd read it all with a chunk of salt but there are some good opinions.

I never shake and have never had a problem. I was told, rightly or wrongly, that shaking can create air bubbles that can affect the very tiny orifices in the saws carburetor.

I figure if it has their name on it and they gave me a 4 year warranty i can't really go wrong. I'll be cutting all year long with the saw so it won't get a lot of rest.

This past Friday i bucked 1 and half cords arms let me tell you it was a dream running this saw. Hot starts were one pull and she pulled some serious rpm's in the cut. I'm really impressed with this little saw. I was running an 18" bar even with the whole thing buried in ash she kept throwing nice big chips.

What surprised me the most was how my arms were barely fatigued. This should be a great saw for my needs.

With a nickasil cylinder a oil like a synthetic maxima super m.

For castiron sleeves it’s maxima 927 castor/synthetic blend,(older saws)

Husky has a new oil with an FD rating. XP+

Not a fan of Husky XP oil. It leaves a lot of deposits in the saw and is not a true full synthetic.
I'm running the black bottle right now, both husky oils are a synthetic blend. What oil would you suggest? Would it be worth running something like a cleaner in the mix as well? I run stabil even though the oil supposedly just it already.
