i use a similar set uo to this however i attach my spliced eye to my harness , marline spike about a foot and half above conneceted to a karabiner with micro pulley and distel knot on other end of rope , same system really will post a picture later if anyone wants ?

please do, a munter hitch will also work in the application you describe.

no, it looks funky because the outer covering does not get buried in the splice. It actually looked much worse but last feb. at NewEngland Grows Stanley Longstaff (RIP) fixed it up for me.

In this application this type of splice is desired because the two legs of the splice are on the outside of the swivel, with a tight splice it would be bending in the wrong spot (directly on the splice itself)
 
Slightly off the subject, is that the standard bridge on your harness, or a retrofit? What a simple and elegant solution! I've been struggling for weeks to come up with a reliable home-made replacement for my bridge. I like your method.

it is not the standard bridge. the bridge that came with my dragonfly looked a little sketchy, so I swapped it out for a length of blustreak.
