we been talkin about running half throttle etc on other post. i know yall use special cutting set up ... but do u have a special carb setup for doing fine detail work... does this require a lot of mid throttle working... if so do your saws last.thanks.

saws here- last last last

I can honestly say here they go and go. If anything oil slimes the muffler, they run cold. Jetting is set for normal wood cutting action.

I have found that certain saws just won't perform at half throttle. They start to starve and run lean and will burn up if continued. The ones that have the ability to run correctly at any speed have no problems at all. And of course I am talking about the pro grade of saws here. I did start out with a particular throw-away homeowner saw that would actually carbon up so bad it would clog the muffler opening.

I have also found that the saws that won't perform at partial throttle without leaning out, it does no good to put on an older model non-EPA carb. The results were the same.
I have some saws with close to 1000 hours on them running them at low speeds.

From <a href="http://www.aerocorsair.com/id27_m.htm">http://www.aerocorsair.com/id27_m.htm</a> (an article about carburetor function and rebuilding using a Walbro and a Tillotson):<blockquote>Now we shall point out the difference between the Walbro 32 carburetor and the Tillotson.&nbsp; The Walbro is a carburetor made to perform well at idle and full RPM.&nbsp; It does not perform well in mid range.&nbsp; Using a Walbro I fly with my in-flight remote carburetor adjustment system with excellent results.&nbsp; The description of this device can be found in the Technical
Info at: http://www.poweredparaglider.com

The Tillotson is a better carburetor (when it works properly).&nbsp; It is bigger, a little heavier and more complicated but it will give good performance in the mid-range RPM as well."</blockquote>There are links within to other articles/sites which can prove educational as well.

It's my understanding that current saws use the Walbro-style design.&nbsp; Perhaps one of those other saws, when using not only a pre-EPA carb, but one that has mid-range considerations, could be used with success?
