In a previous post, EHP mentioned the XP346 having a bigger carb than the MS260 then, if I remember correctly, stated that he'd try out a larger carb on the 260 and post the results.

Here are the questions for EHP:

1) have you by chance tried it yet?

2) were you referring to using a larger carb on a modded 260 only or any 260?

I'm just curious if perhaps a stock 260 with opened muffler might be able to handle & respond favorably to a larger carb.

Though I addressed this post to EHP, I'd like to hear from anyone else with experience or opinion on the subject.

Thanks,

Sorry Rustyb , i have not been doing much this past week , i have infection in both eyes right now and my head feels like it is going to blow apart, i can see not to bad right now but still have alot of puss coming out from below the eyes.
Doc tells me that i got in to some rock at the mine that has a virus which it could be because we just started to crush some rock that has been sitting for 4 years
i am going to put a 346 carb on this 260 and see what happens , it should be faster, Rustyb when i do it i will let you know ok

Thanks for the reply Ed. Hope your eyes get better soon. Doesn't sound like fun.

Anyhow, another question for you. Will you be trying the 346 carb on a stock 260 or ported 260?

I ask as I'm interested in having more cutting power yet sending my 260 off to you or another builder for porting isn't in the financial cards for me right now. However, purchasing a carb would be doable...assuming the benifits on a stock saw (other than opening the muffler) were enough to justify it.

The 026 runs preaty good with a bigger carb in the application that I made for stihltech. I think that if the carb had been done over that it would even produce more for the saw. Although, This might start to become too much carb for the saw. This big of a carb though is not practical for a woods saw because there are issues with filtration... Like there is almost no room for it.

ehp,

Please excuse my morbid curiosity (and ignorance), but you can catch a virus from rock? Or did stone dust irritate your eye, which predisposed them to a cold virus like conjuctivitis?

Please explain....& get well.

I don't know about viruses, but you can get molds or fungii from quarries, especially ones that have been worked over in the past and then left to sit. Forest workers can also catch certain types of fungus from handling decaying wood or soil, and running chainsaws in such an evironment and breathing the sawdust.

Stihlman036,

I appreciate the response. I'm not sure I understand though. When you say "The 026 runs preaty good with a bigger carb in the application that I made for stihltech.", do you mean that you built a saw for Stihltech and put a larger carb on it?

I'd really appreciate it if you could elaborate on the specifics.

Thanks.

Yes I put a carb from a larger saw on the 026CC for sthiltech. The saw is made to race only not very pratical for the woods. We were running it tonight against my 044 and it was easily out cutting it. But neither saw could keep up with the JP 5'3".... Taylor did a beautiful refile job and the saw should make good money this year.

Later,
Chris
