The way I think it should be. Kinda like RJ said. If you can prove your meathod works and that you know why and how it opperates then who ever shouldn't have a problem with it. If it makes you comfortable and you work just a safe and at the same pace others work. Then why not be able to climb on your own methods. As long as they're OSHA and ANSI approved. Same with hard hats. Anyway ya'll see where I'm going with this. To each there own. If your going to be in the saddle all day why not use what you feel the safest and most comfortable with. Have a gooden, BB:confused:

Utility forester

Froggy

Most of the Utility foresters out there have little to no actual training. I speak from experience I am one. Their tools and methods may work for them but not for you, there is also an adjustment period to getting familiar with new tools and techniques, You dont always get a second chance to make a mistake, hydro lines are very unforgiving. Ausplundh, Davey Tree, and a few others I have had the chance to work for all cut corners, usualy at the expence of your safety.

i work for davey and im sure that there are induviduals that cut corners but i have not seen one cut with the crews i work with yet.

Its not always the crews that cuts corners, The manage ment does it by not keeping up on the rubber gloves, dielectrical testing on the booms of trucks but not the pruner sticks or pole saws, replacing the ropes, and most importantly there is no training program in place for climbers or bucket opperators. You maay say that you get training on the job, but you are getting training from untrained people, learning all their bad habits, and wrong or less effective methods. Im not saying that the new methods are better for everyone, but wouldnt you like to have a choice.

that is true. i keep my climbing gear in my jeep , not my work truck, this way i dont have to worry about gear getting lost or other people using it . small things like that make me know that i am being as safe as possible and i know that there is no chance anyone has fouled with my gear or could have knicked the rope while putting a saw away. kinda lost the topic there but oh well.
