Recently in another thread I was (ahem...) 'educated' by a much more knowledgeable member regarding the fact that the Easy-2-Start system on these two saws is vastly different from, and superior to the earlier easy-start Stihl models (mostly homeowner stuff which has gotten somewhat of a negative rep).

I'm starting this thead for two reasons:

1)To eat some humble pie (thank you sir, may I have another!!!) :buttkick:

2)Since I obviously don't know my butt from a hole in the ground regarding Stihl's Easy-2-Start system, I'm asking you Stihl types (that have actualy worked on/with Stihls built after about 1994, unlike myself...) to fill me in on the workings of the new system (as used in the 192's, and presumeably to be used in future Stihl saws) and the differences between it and the 'older' easy-start Stihl efforts.

How does the 'new' system work? Is it durable enough for 'pro' and long term use? What does it share with the old stuff? What's different/improved? Is it easy to work on?

The "old POS" system was a "wind up" -you pulled and pulled and pulled and when it was wound up fully it went "zing"... and turned to engine over... great... total disconnect from the compression "feel", and if (when...) the user flooded the saw, it was impossible to start it using the usual "long-arm" approach... EZ to pull - yes; EZ to start.. nope...

After some end user training "listen for the false start you duffas, and get the frigg'in choke off!", it worked well.... Just drove me nutz behind the counter when the saws kept coming back flooded.

The 192 (and others coming) has a neat 'new" and very simple system - a single partial turn stiff spring integrated with the rotor that absorbs the pull power on each stroke, and releases it just before the max compression to push the piston over the top... Works great on the smaller engines.. but I doubt you'll see it on more than 50cc.

I don't have a pic, but Stihl#1 might have one...
