Is radio remote on a stump grinder worth the extra $? Is it precise enough from the remote? what other benefit does it have other than no cranked neck and no debris being fired at you?

Cheers

On those larger machines I would go for one. I have a smaller machine and just didnt see the need for it.

it would be on a small self prop. machine like the bandit 2100 or carlton of similar size

I have used a Brush Bandit 2100 with both the radio control and the control attached to the machine by a cord. The radio control made grinding stumps much easier and safer. It allows you to get into positions where you can easily maximize the swing and limit the amount of repositioning. I did not notice any difference between operating the machine with the radio control, the corded control, or the manual controls on the machine. Once you get used to using a remote control it is very very easy to make the machine do what you want it to do. The only downside that I see is that you will never want to go back to the old way.

I have the 2100 Brush Bandit with wireless and love it. I think I paid around $2000 for the option and its worth every penny. I thought Carlton was around $4000. If you have dealer around your area you should be able to do a demo. I wouldn't want to run one again without. Pete

When i was working for a country club Vermeer had agreed to make a TX unit the control panel for me at reduced cost.

The would charge extra for the special order, but not having the swing out panel cut a chunk out of the overall cost.

I ended up pissing an important person off and loosing that job (for the better) so they did not get that machine.

that benefit is worth the loot right there bub. get it and sit in the comfort of you truck as you grind away, coffee in hand.

well at least you wont be in the line of fire for debris.

i think i'd save the money,, and stay by the machine my self.. i know remote control has a lot of good uses,,but ,, with a grinder,, i'd rather be there..

sight: can you grind between a curb and a side walk,, from 10-15 feet away ??? or any other obstruction ??

hearing: i can hear when i'm in stump, dirt or rock,, next to the machine..

feel: i can feel if i broke a tooth or teeth,, by the vibration.. can you do that from a remote...

i'm not a big fan of electric over hydraulic controls,, i think that you lose the feel or what your doing...

just my 2 cents..
