I tuck the jacket under my harness, but it usually manages to pull out somewhat, making it a little difficult to find the clips on the harness. I just slow things down a bit and make sure I'm safe. Usually when the tree is that wet I slow down anyways as it is always alot more slippery.

USMC standard issue Cold Weather Parka. It's gore-tex, takes quite the sharp object to snag the outer shell too. I can do a t-shirt under it in summer/winter regardless of temperatures and almost sweat. Mine has a wind break on the inside that goes about an inch below the waist, works amazing. I have yet to get wet, or chilled in it.

Squad, do you find you sweat alot in that gear?

Garden o Eden, I really like the look of that jacket if its the one I've found,is it the new style APECS one?Its v expensive at $280 odd. Do you know a store that sells used ones?:)

USMC digi pattern Gortex, I have my old set with the woodland pattern as well! Little pricey, but worth it. If you live near a base, the shops around it will have them, they are not the real USMC stuff, but just like it. Only difference is the tag in the collar. Full set will cost about 300.
ADD ON,
You live in Ireland, sooooooo ..................... maybe a little far for you to get one! GOOGLE!
Still love the name
My old truck was "greanbean", hence my screen name, it pulled my boat, the "slippery pickle"

Is that the olive drab one, with the bill? I have that on too!
Never us it tho, the bill drives me nut's! It was tore up in Somalia and hangs in my eye's, probably should pitch it, but its hard to get rid of the gear, sentimental thing, have all my cammies and 782 gear in a trunk, figured my grand kids will get a kick out of it some day!
Plus if we are in a post apocalyptic world, I have a head start. Just watched "the Road" with Viggo Mortesen, crazy,
need to start building my bomb shelter!

I'm going to suggest something that might sound a bit silly, but don't knock it until you try it ;-)

I've spent a lot of years doing outdoor stuff and getting wet. Mainly its been long distance hiking, rock climbing, sailing small catamarans and riding motorbikes long distance. I've tried and still own most types of goretex rain shells (north face, dri-rider etc) and have probably dished up 3 or 4 thousand dollars for these extruded used coke bottle jackets. They are light. Some keep the water off, for a couple of hours. Some even keep the water off for half a day as long as you dont want to count water running down your neck etc. Some even breathe a little... but if you are climbing and working hard, then all bets are off. If you insist on going goretex then north face is pretty good. They're no better fabric wise than any other goretex, but they are shorter to allow room for your harness and tie-ine, they have zips in the underarms to allow you to breathe a little while climbing, and they dont suffer from 'lift up' every time you put your arms above your head.

What Im going to suggest though is a light weight dinghy wetsuit. This isnt as stupid as it sounds. I used to wear them all the time while sailing, because you're going to get drenched on a small cat. Getting wet isnt the problem. Staying warm is. With a wetsuit, you dont mind being wet so much. I had a job as a motorbike courier for about 6 months, and on wet days I started wearing the wetsuit. I would have looked like a real tool if people had known, but I just put on jeans and a shirt over it and nobody knew. Every other courier would be miserable and shivering in their wet weather gear that only kept them dry till about 10am and I'd be giggling and carrying on, riding through puddles and having a blast. They never did work out why I didnt mind the rain when I was obviously soaked to the bone, and I gave them a really hard time about their wet weather gear ;-)

They are relatively cheap (under $100 for e decent one), lightweight and last a long time. wear it climbing, wear it riding, wear it anywhere, just dont tell anyone. Spring suits for surfing go just as good. Its nowhere near as cool as that bright yellow goretex jacket, but it will keep you warm and keep you working no matter how bad the weather gets. You can always put another layer on top, and if you get to hot just take it off.

My brother is in the Corps. I got my first from him, then subsequent ones various places.

Never more than 100 for the Parka. PM me, and I'll check the status on pricing. They are the real NATO ones, so I need a NATO size.

God Bless,

Jeff

It is, I hate that damn bill. I roll and tuck the hood most days, if I remember to not put gel in my hair. In the rain, it burns my eyes...

I dont wear anything but grundens foul weather gear, after 20 years fishing commercially in the most extreme weather you can imagine i really a a true believer in there products, i have a light weight rainsuit from them that is gortex that i climb in that i think i paid 80 bucks for and it has been awesome i wear there fleece lined oil skin pullover when im climbing in the winter and stay warm and dry all day i wear there sweatshirts in the fall and at night the old lady wears a pair of their sweatpants to bed, i honestly dont think you will find a better product for the money, i wouldnt be at all supprised if i have spent 20 grand on there products in my life and i cant say at anytime i have ever felt dissastisfied wit h any of it.

Not really. It has ventilation zippers in the underarms. I don't usually use them, as I only wear them in the spring and fall when the rain is cold. When it is warm in the summer, I just wear a long sleeve t-shirt and put up with the rain.

I use the same thing whether it is raining or not. A long sleeve T-shirt. We worked in the rain today. It was raining before we started and was raining when we finished.

Of course, the rain in Hawaii is not cold like the rain on the mainland USA. I tried using rain jackets and got just as wet from perspiration and rain running down the neck and sleeves.

Wouldn't know nothing about that!!;)

Worked at OCS, Candidates love losing gear, or when they get dropped or DOR, they always left all their gear on the buses, like a freebie shopping day, all brand new gear that they paid for, suppose they where butt hurt or they just didn't want to carry it thru the airport's, they would just abandon it!

I hated CIF, MAN O MAN I HATED CIF!

Worked last Saturday in an all day rain. It was 4 degrees Celsius (about 39 F). Just a miserable day. Had a chest cold to boot.

I wore the jacket and pants. Kept me dry and a little warmer. Unfortunately, didn't help the chest cold.:(

I wear a raincoat that is insulated. I have lots of gore tex but it gets wet eventually . Look for a fisherman supply store like they use on fishing boats and they will have a lot to choose from.
