Red cedar

Have an outdoor wood burning furnace to heat my home. Some sites say Do not burn Cedar in it as it creates a lot of creosote. Just wondering what the experience of some of you may have with red cedar burning?

Use it to light the fire, not burn all the time.

^ same experience as them. Burns fast, better smell than heat wood. I no longer bother collecting it. I prefer it to pine, but thats faint praise.

False. Poor burning and/or wet wood causes creosote.
You hear the same myth about pine.

I took 2 down for a friend a few years back. Hauled it home and burnt it in the fire pit. Smelled great! If it’s dry I don’t see any issue using it.

Cedar is good to get a fire started but that's about all I've ever done with it
