In the process of removing a stand of 29 black austrian pines due to wooley adelgid. I'm looking for an evergreen to replace them. My two thoughts currently are Norway Spruce or Japanese Cedar 'radicans'
I need something disease and pest resistant. Maybe a combination of 2 species to avoid a monoculture?
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Adelges tsugae on Pinus nigra?? Unlikely. But, Pineus strobi is a common secondary pest on stressed Pinus nigra, a woolly mess but not a tree killer.

Losing a line of 29 trees and their value is no small matter. I would look below ground to provide answers as much as I focused attention above. Avoiding a monoculture is good thinking. Cryptomeria is indeed a good choice.
