Hey guys looking to replace the 20 hp engine with the newer 27hp one, does anyone know the shaft size for the 20hp before i go ripping it apart, just trying to save time so i can order the new engine asap.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Research the original engine number, if you can fit a 27 hp, you can fit a 31 hp. It'll be worth it. Been drinking, but I remember posting info here, check the search engine. I replaced my 25 w/a 27 hp on my 1625, been kicking myself ever since. The machine can take it.

Haha thanks! I'm replacing the engine for my cousin so I'll let him know that and see if he wants to go the 31. All the tags on the engine are worn so I can't read them. But I'll have to see if I can find the one on the block

Pretty sure your worn out Kohler 20 has a 1-3/4" shaft.
I replaced mine with a 25hp Kohler (same size). 31 hp would certainly be nicer.
