Took footlocking to a new level yesterday...
Late in the day yesterday we had deadwood on 5 oaks... 3 with just a few lower branches, and 2 with some serious climbing to do...
Started at 4 and finished at 5:20, with a bit of clean up left....

Set a throw line and then pulled up a false crotch (block) with my climbing line in it.... then a ground man used a gas drill and the GRCS to pull the tail of the climbing line and I rode into the tree like I was at the carnival. Sweet....

Once aloft I took my climbing line off the pulley and set it as usual... I was tied in with a friction hitch and slack tending micro pulley the entire time...

I've had the tools to do this for close to a year, though this is the first time I got around to trying it... It is the cat's meow for saving energy... especially on certain jobs where there are a number of trees with just a few high cuts to make.....

As I reset my tie in point the ground men are moving the GRCS to the next tree... quick, easy, fun, and if done properly.... safe.... Also I Am a big believer that anything we do to save energy on the job improves safety, as a large percentage of injuries are related to fatigue....

One word of caution.... I have a policy where there is a second ground man keeping visual contact with the climber at all times. That man is to give direction to the man operating the gas drill, because the operator may not be able to hear the climber over the noise of the drill....

Nothing wrong with that in my book, heck, I hook up to the Kanga.

I take one of those loud Fox whistles with me so if the chit hits the fan everybody in the suburb will know! :biggrinbounce2:

Too right, conserve energy, work smarter not harder.

Hey, how about a video of ya doing it next time ... watch the power drill sales go up.

Been thinking about the same thing. What type of drill did you use?

A corded heavy duty is best. I've tried with the Stihl gas drill and it was wimpy.

What i mostly do is use the winch as belay when going back up into a removal after lunck or pee break.

Used the Stihl gas drill... no way would an 18 or 36 volt drill have the juice to lift a man into tall trees all day... might not move him at all.... The stihl couldn't do much in forward, so we had to use reverse at 44:1, and I AM down to 175...
Since JPS got married I'd bet he put on a few pounds.... Last i heard he was 250.... The climber's weight will make a big difference. The climber can always help the drill out with a little hand over hand too. The electric drill is not practical, even if it does have the power, which it probably doesn't!...

I haven't seen 175 since elementary school. ahhhh to only have to pull 175 up all day... That would be heaven. And on my end marriage is a factor. I only loose weight when one of us are out of town:hmm3grin2orange:

Got any good secrets on 235-175 over night?

I quoted you because of the ratios you mentioned. They are based on the length of the handle.
If you count actual turns, it's like 4 to 1, and 8 to 1.
The drill doesn't have a long crank handle, it just turns.

I'm around 235 now, ever since a big storm over a year ago. I had to work 6 days a week and wa killing myself. So tired I was not eating much. Got down to 218, first time for that since my early 20's.

So it wont work over night, but climb more and eat less. I guarentee in two weeks you will see results.

First thing is get off all refined sugars and all grains... guarenteed to drop 5 lbs a week... until you plateau... then you have to alkalanize the body... that is raise the pH because your body uses fat to store or buffer the acid... Lose the acid and your body no longer needs the fat... i used the super greens and proper food combination and dropped from 195 to 155 last year... now I stay between 170-175 usually... sometimes down to 165...

That and a little weight training has made a huge difference in my productivity.... HUGE.... (learning to footlock well has been huge too) That is why I haven't been posting much here these days... been too busy.....
