I am taking the top off a spruce tree (and the rest of it after, I am not a topper!) and have a rigging question.
Does it make a difference to use a chocked sling or rope to attach the pulley to? I am thinking choked sling with steel biner to steel pulley. Or is rope with a timber hitch better.

Thanks for any tips.

Alan

I frequently will girth hitch a sling with the block on light loads. If it is close to SWL I will go to the cow hitch. I wont timber hithc a sling it can release too easily.

The only thing I use tht TH for is the PWIII on realy big buts. Then I'll take a bight and twist it a lot and feed the PW throiugh the bight.

though I have rigged a few big peices out on it where the lowering line will remain tight.

With a rope, you'll also be able to snug your block in close so there will be less fall distance and a lower dynamic load. Of course, a good rope man will let it ride a bit.
