What chain size will fit a .404-8 rim sprocket? I am sure the answer is so easy, but it eludes me, obviously it would be a .404 chain but how would this size chain fit. Thanks in advance

The only time the gauge of the chain matters is for the bar.
any 404 will work on that rim

The only .404 chain I know is .404 x .063. That works with that rim - used on my Homelite Super 1050.
I finished restoration on a Homelite 2000 recently which I used in the woods when I was much younger, I had stored it away and forgot about it until last January when doing some cleaning discovered it in under a pile of other useful stuff. To make a long story short, it has a well-used 1/2in X .63 chain on it. This is the reason it would not fit into my new .404 - 8T rim sprocket. With #10 stamped on drive link, I should have put two and two together.
