ripping vs. noodling?

Not exactly milling related, but I figured this might be the best place to ask... Sometimes on removals the rounds are just too big to move and need to be cut into halves or quarters. Is the quickest easiest way to do this ti rip or to noodle? Noodling seems to keep my chain sharp a bit longer.

definitely noodle.
Noodling is cutting along or with the grain,
ripping is cutting end grain and
cross cutting is like cutting across the grain
 
Exactly like Bob said. Noodling is the easiest way to cut a log followed by crosscutting. Ripping is the hardest way to cut wood by far. A tip for noodling is use a longer bar than the cut and hold the power head out from the log. This will help with the massive amount of "noodles" coming out to clear before packing into powerhead.
