Well after the long debate on a 660 or a 395 then they toss in the 390 I could not take it anymore I went and got myself a 660 with a 36" bar I have a 40" chunk of hard maple that I lit into pretty good so far not even 1 tank but I did notice when all 36 was in wood it does not like those big dogs. Hopefully it will come around some after 6 or so more tanks

It will. I admit I was a bit disappointed with mine at first. Now it cuts like it should. I've run ~20 tanks through mine and it continues to get stronger.

Definitely get the dual port front cover, and even then, open up the stock port to 9/16th ID...Then you'll have a saw that breathes like the old 066's..and will cut close to 20% faster than that horribly restricted stocker.....

I have one that can be at your door for ~$40....brand spanking new...

Get a factory dual port muffler or mod it yourself. Richen up the carb after muffler mod & you will notice quite a difference. Lets the motor breath and run a little cooler. The stock muffler hole is too small IMO.

Is your chain too hungry for that hard of wood, or do you think the saw underpowered at this time?
Like already said, a DP face plate will do wonders, put some after market air system on it as well and it will make an even bigger difference.

Got it on the job today 6 tanks through it and I have already noticed a big difference These were two hard maple's the butt on the first was 32" and the other I have yet to tip over yet. About 14yrds of chips and the big one is only 1/3 canopy down. The butt of this will probably be almost 4' this tree is why I went and got tis saw . I will be getting a 24" bar soon for blocking. This 660 made short work of blocking the trunk. Normally I would have run a slightly mod. 262 with a 20" so my 3+ hrs. of blocking was dropped down to about 1 hr. So far I am happy does the face plate void warranty. If not I will have one and RB will have one less. But I am sure that the 9/16 port will void all. but after 1 year it will be getting one for sure.

Actually mine says, MS440,MS441,MS460,MS650,MS660,and the MS880.

I bought my 066 and 395 the same year about 6 years ago. The 066 ran very strong right out of the box and still runs the same today, while the 395 got stronger for probably 15 tanks or more. Now they run about the same overall, and both pull a 36 bar buried just fine, although I run really sharp chains.

Both also do just fine with a 42, although I think that is around the limit for practical purposes. And in terms of the oiler output.

I tried the dp for the 066 and didn't like the extra noise so I gave it back. I don't know if the new 660 exhausts are more restricted than mine, and thus benefiting even more from dp.

Also, if you are having trouble pulling a 36 inch bar, make sure you are running a 7 pin sprocket.

Swampy, you are beginning to see what a 660 will do. Mine will pull a sharp chain through 36" of oak, breezing though it, and covering my boots with chips in short order. Stock, except for a dual port cover. Do that mod, best money you can spend.

Yes, as mentioned, it's a bit loud. Where the 3120 is nicely civilized, the 066, well, let's just say it isn't.
