Is there anyone out there who knows how to graft a sprig from last spring's growth to the trunk of a white Spruce. Must it be done in winter? I tried it last year with a sprig having a 1/8" shaft embedded 1-1/2" into the trunk at a slight downward angle and sealed with spruce gum. It failed. It might have been the warm winter we had last year and I did it in late February.
1. Can it be done?
2. What time of year is best?
3. Should I have used a wax for sealing the juncture?

Any help would be appreciated ASAP before winter passes.

Ron.

The key to grafting is the cambium of the scion (twig to be grafted on) must be touching the cambium of the root stock. There are several you tube videos on grafting that give step by step direction.
