BS/SB ropes

I have Blue Streak and Safety Blue, like em both, but favor the Blue Streak. I bought the Blue Streak in the 600' roll so some of it gets used for things other than just climbing line, though the piece for climbing is dedicated for climbing.
Nick, could you say a bit more about splicing the BS as you are the resident splicer. The first thing I did when I got home with the Blue Streak was to go to the Sampson web site and download and print their instructions on splicing the 16 strand.
When I first learned to splice it was back in the days of three strand hemp or manila. I thought this splice for the 16 strand will never hold but it does, it just took a while to get used to the difference.
Then it dawned on me that if the ropes are that much stronger it was time to get better pulleys so I got CMI's stuff. Buy one new tool and you have reasons to buy more new equipment to support it.

Geofore, what do you want to know.

The security of the splice comes from those first few inches of the throat. If you have a loose rope, bury more than five pics before you start the taper.

The crossover is the transition from the buried cover strands into the core strands. When done, you should be able to run your hand over this part and not feel any bumps or divots.

Lock stitch.

Jamie,

What have you climbed on so far? Not a fan of the marlow myself, swapping between my arborgold and fly at the moment.

ive climbed on some new england (not too sure of te rope, it was orange)

my boss supplies us with multiplait, with more bounce than a bungee jumpng rope.....

and a beal bonsai....which i like as it has no stretch, but its rough as feck on the old hands, maybe i have soft girlie hands though

multiplat a sure quick way too put you off climbing for life too much:blob2: for me..marlow im pleased with it..the newer ropes have a lot less milking so marlow told me..trust me too buy the ,prototype.......

multiplait

ive found climbing so far is knackering then the bounce goes and you can fire up the rope, then you descend just a bit to far and bam its back........

well i mainly climb on the beal...which is great cos it has no stretch but its narrow and takes a lot of gripping. hitches descend nice on it, slide easily, stop easily....pity it has no splices

Jamie,

Your orange NE is "High Vee" not a bad line, light weight compared to many of the other lines, just under 12mm diameter.

Multiplat - sorry to hear that, christ i almost want to send you a rope.

I know what you mean about the beal, very tight braid so does chew the hands a little and i found it didn't hold the knots to well.

Who is your supplier for Beal? If you talk to Andrew at Proclimber 01558 685862 he may well be able to splice a loop in it for you.

supplier

who is my supplier, my boss,

im happy actually using it without splices, it never snags on anything, untie the bowline and it slips though everything....

the prussic loops are on multiplait, my boss spliced them up, i think that the extra diameter helps it slide soo well....ok its not the best set up but it works and im happy...well soo far,

hope to start getting more stuff but i'll have to wait......never mind, hopefully i may have some cash soon.....

not only is BS a fine climb line, it seems to wear for a longer time...that is, it's tougher for longer. All true blue should be sent to mars along w/ arborplex...maybe other lifeforms have a use for them!:alien:

Even though a 12 strand, i wouldn't put TrueBlue quite with Budget Samson Arbor-Plex/Wall Arbor-Plus 12 strands.

A hunk of True Blue has always seemed to last longer than most lines through succesive downgrades; all the way down to scrap pieces for truck dragging etc. IMLHO.

:alien:

I'll give credit where credit id due-true blue is better than arborplex. I just hate ropes that flatten out during use.

BS is a great rope, but heavy!!!
I tried the Sherrill pro stripe but I'd rather have arborplex, there is just no end to the milking. I've been climbing on yellowjacket for about 2 months now and I'm really impressed (mainly that I have not stuck a spike in it yet) it is a great rope that really works well with ascenders, and I have not had ANY of the pro stripe issues.

Amen to the milking issue. Drive a guy nuts, it will.

FWIW, Yale is coming out with some new colors of their XTC. Fire, Spark and Pheonix I believe are the names they go by.

I have a flipline that is of the Fire variety. Super bright stuff. It stands out, that's for sure!

ccooperabbs, this might be an esoteric point (fun word! i wonder if I used it right) but you said the Hi-vee is just under 12mm. It's a half inch climbing line. That puts it at just over 12mm.
