Russian Olive worth saving?

This Russian Olive has done well for 10 years, though we neglected pruning like we were supposed to early on.
This year a lot of the branches looked dead and after cutting, this is what's left :-o

It looks terrible, obviously, we should just cut it down and start again, right?

Is that not classed as an invasive species in Canada? I know it has been added to that list in the US.

I hope you didn't pay anything for that pruning job.

Cutting off some of the dead wood is not going to address the problem that lead to the branches dying off. I would say the chances of recovery are slim to none.

Only parts of the US and Canada (e.g. BC) list Russian Olive as invasive.
