Still learning my way around so forgive the repost from the main forum.

Hey everyone, I'm a brand new member here and wanted to say hey and ask a question at the same time. I am inheriting a Sachs 123 and a 120. I grew up running these saws primarily to cut firewood. They have sat around for years and the 123 is not starting. It has spark and will fire with a squirt of ether. My dads neighbor, who is handy with small engines believes its the diaphram that's not functioning. I ordered a new diaphram and gasket yesterday, but thought I throw this out to you guys that know about these saws. Any help you can give is appreciated.
Phil

Welcome to the forum, we all had to start somewhere. You have come to a good place to ask questions and get answers on the Sachs Dolmar saws.
It is a very bad idea to use starter fluid or either to start two strokes, they require oil in the fuel for lubrication, even a short burst of run time without oil can and does cause damage. Now that said and over with, use two stroke mix for starting, a few drops in the sparkplug hole or a squirt into the carb throat, much better.
When a Sachs Dolmar engine does not pull up fuel it would most likely be the carb diaphragms have gone bad but also check the fuel line from the tank and also inside the tank, they have a habit of rotting off. Let us know how you make out.

123

i bought this saw from ebay. seller said it had 100 psi. i inquired about his testing method. he said he gave it one good pull. it has almost 180psi. it has a bad kill switch wire and a leak around the tank nipple.
Jerry, i saw where you had a 133 with the same problem. i didn't see where you posted your fix. is it redneck engineering or did you replace the part?
here are a few pics.

Thanks for the assistance guys. Lesson learned on the starting fluid. I got a call a few minutes ago and my parts are in. It will be a few days before they get in the saw, I'll let you know how it goes.

Neil, ..I took one of the tank fittings and looked it over closely and after figuring out how it worked it was a simple fix rather than re-engineer a new part to do the same job. I took a piece of fuel hose that was a loose 3/8" id and it slid on over the spigot snugly but not too tight, from that piece of hose I cut a short length just over 1/2" long and slid it back over the spigot, it has to go over a shoulder at the bottom, cover the notch where the tank vents and extend up to where the fuel hose to the carb attaches. The spigot is threaded and the air follows around the thread to get into the tank. The older grub screw in the hose type of tank vent worked the same way, Sachs Dolmar just integrated the fuel pickup and vent all in one.
I thought that I took picts when I repaired mine but I can`t find them, I can take picts again if anyone wants them as I have a spare one made up, its setting in the spare parts box.

pics would be great. i'm too dumb to follow you excellent description!!!!

i only need one size hose? 3/8ID?

Ok,..I will pull out the spare one and take some picts, the one on the saw is kind of buried under the carb so it would be very hard to get a pict of it in place. The spare is at the shop so tomorrow I will get a pict or two.

Ok, I know this seems like a dumb question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. The gas cap on the 123 and 120 say 25/1 mix. I don't have any manuals or shop specs for these so I cannot confirm for myself. Is that the proper mix for these saws? Thanks

NOPE,,using a good quality 2 stroke oil, made for saws,50 to one works fine in them..
i always use a few drops extra so i'm probly using 48 to one or something like that.

So, since I currently have the shihl high performance 2 cycle oil (orange bottle), not synthetic. Should I mix it a little more rich? Like adding a ml or 2 per gallon?

120si air filter

Anybody got a line on an air filter for a 120si? I'm in need of one. new or used ( as long as it's in good shape). The one I have is missing most of the felt. PM me.

The 116SI and 120SI air filters
are still available. You can get them
from a site sponsor "The Cutting Edge"
You can PM cuttingscott or 166
They will hook you up.

This is what I did to make the tank vent/fuel line fitting work on the 133, it is a short length of 3/8 ID fuel line. Push it all the way down to the hex nut part of the fitting.
