Any of you Dolmar fans ever had any trouble with them??
I bought a new 5100 a while back and man that saw was fast!! Ran great and cut even better for about 9 months and at that point the saw might have had 40 hours on it and she siezed up one day while I was cutting!! I took it to the dealer and he rebuilt the saw under warranty and said he suspected low grade 2 cycle oil had caused the problems. I had been using dyno oil cheap stuff from tractor supply. He recomended that I use husqvarna synthetic that he sold so I bought it and a new gas can on his recomendation and mixed it religously with one gallon of gas.
Took out the freshly rebuilt saw and began using it and only had about 6 hours on it when she locked up again. Unfortunately the warranty was over and Dolmar does not stand behind their products at all when repaired at one of their facilities they suggested I take it up with the dealer. He no longer sells Dolmar and had no interest in standing behind it or his work (not sure where the problem lay).
Then the dealer says that I must have mixed the fuel wrong or used cheap oil because these saws have no problems. I must say I was furious at this comment as I had followed his directions to a tee. I then called Dolmar again only to be told that 2-cycle engines can sometimes be finiky and probably the failure was due to the Husqvarna synthetic oil and Dolmar oil would have been much better. They also said they would love to keep me as a customer but could not do anything to remedy the saw or loss of cash laid out on it.
So I am just curious has anyone else had any trouble with these or did I just get a bad one?
I have a dolmar 116si... great dependable saw .. I plan on buying a dolmar 5100s in the near future.. and maybe a couple dolmars in the distant
know what ya mean my 120 is a mean little saw, the 116 unfortunately has low compression
