thanx i will remember that, i did try the carabiner on the rope instead of the ring but the ring slides nicer and puts the carabiner in a nicer position for me. anyhows, without the ring it would be exactly the same as using the webbing, therefore pointless mod!!

What about a micro pulley, like on glides, using a spiced rope for a bridge. That would be within 10% from complete frictionless. Slick as snot.

Carl

already tried that but it puts the carabiner in the same position as running it on the webbing alone. kind of sideways looking at the spine of the biner, therfore putting a quarter twist in the rope at all times.

In Sean Larkin's "Sneak Preview", if I remember correctly Sherrill will be carrying a new micro that has a swivel to correct that.

Carl?

the carabiner is getting further and further away though, my arms are only so long and my blakes is the right length for comfortable working

I am guessin that you work DbRt, not SRT. Can you really tell when there is a 1/4 a twist? I am just askin, not bustin yours or anything. If you dont like the twist, but like the pulley, then you could get a 90 degree twist biner.

Just a thought. I work SRT

i use the petzl william ball lock biners and they are easier to use onehanded if side on , thats why i dont like the twist. cheers to ya yes i do do dbrt, i dont use distel but used to and found in most cases it was a pita. blakes a little slower but easier to get on with, and you only need one biner in the ring. anyway i unfortunately work for local authority so no real time restraints

What ever happened with the whole ansi and ce rating of the butterfly? When will they get that ironed out. I'm not just talking about the butterfly. Just because you are from a different country you may go by CE standards? Hell I would have to say we are all originally from another country unless your native american. Could someone give up their citizenship and then be allowed to climb on something with the 22kn rating? How about the use of the buckingham friction saver? Tell me how this friction save meets the 4:1 bend ratio for a climbing line. I guess if Ken Palmer had his hands in Komet pockets it would be different?

good point bout fs, thats why i never really used it, it was bought for me by my old company so wasnt bothered about butchering it! we do go by ce standards yes

The FS ring doesn't have the 4:1 bend ratio, but it doesnt have to. The rope isn't doubled over it, and there is no ANSI reg that says that the rope has to have a 4:1 bend ratio. That came from the rope manufactors. Not many people would like to have a 2" thick ring hangin from there bridge, and it would be unneccesary.

Think about a rope with a spliced eye, and a biner. It doesnt have a 4:1 ratio, but that doesnt matter.

yes, and a ring is no problem at all on the bridge. there is no weight problem here coz i used to use weaver and the bf is so much lighter anyway
