So I got the quote for the full wrap 441. Needed to get all my pennies in order from the tax man. One saw, full wraps, 25" wide nose bar and an extra loop of full skip.

Problem is, the dealer, who has been good on everything else, said he had to sell it with safety chain on it. I said that was useless to me and I would not leave the store with it. He said he had to and included in the price another loop of full comp in the quote, on top of the saw and the skip. That is one saw and three loops.

I read that there was a displacement break where 2 forms of kick back prevention were part of the law, but on a saw like this, especially with the wide nose that is "kick back prone", that is not for the average user?

Is this the law? Should I ask a little harder?

Is $810 too much for a full wrap with a 25" bar?

So, as a shop owner, a customer who asks for full comp, even paying the price difference if there is any, would be granted that request?

This dealer does good by me on consumables and such, but the other place in town said no safety chain, we can get it tomorrow and we would love to see you again. As a smallish but repeat customer, I was hoping for a little more service.

He made it right with the extra loop. The government goes through a lot of effort to protect us from ourselves. Roll with the punches, you just got yourself a dirty log chain.

+1

you got an extra chain whats the problem?

Doesn't happen that way around here where the Pro Loggers buy stuff. You get what you ask for.

Once again, another reason why I am spoiled with the dealers I have. They are downright awesome!

Thanks for the letter of the law stuff.

To be clear, I asked for the quote including a loop of full skip, expecting to pay for it. Because he has to sell safety chain on the saw, he quoted the price of a loop of full comp.

I understand kickback, thanks.

You spun it in the right light, got a chain I don't really care about now. I also heard there was a promotion for buying this month, you got a case and extra chain with you saw for $35?

Same thing around here, I would and have walked right out of a shop when someone starts pushing somthing down my throat I do not want. On my last saw the dealer traded out the safty chain for round chisle without even blinking. It is your money, get what you want, Sounds like you may have have found yourself a new dealer that will work with ya better than the old one.

My dealer is cool, when you ask for a saw he asks what bar you want and what chain you want, he puts it on. Whether it's pro chain and pro bar combo or not. :hmm3grin2orange:

Same here..I have bought so many saws from my dealer that I just call him and tell him what I want and when I'm coming, and he'll have it ready and waiting when I get there...He knows to put on a single drag chain,or I don't walk out with the saw.

My dealer said he had to sell the saw with the safety chain on the ms 290 I just bought, but threw in a loop of full chisel for free. I hammered him long enough he threw in a hat, 2 extra plugs, 1 more loop of full chisel, and the case for 35 bucks.

We sell everything under 3.8 Cubic inches or whater the CC equivalent is (61 or 62) I'll let SawTroll hammer out the numbers... with the safety chain. Technically, the dealer(in the US) is REQUIRED to sell it with the safety chain if it's under that size, regarless of whether the customer is a pro or not. I got a bigtime lecture from our stihl distributor on that. Heck, we got threatened with a fine for fixing a trimmer and not replacing the guard the customer took off. We were told if the trimmer came with a guard originally, we cannot let unit leave our premises without a guard on it if we did any service work on it or we can be held liable for anything that happens because of no guard....same goes for chain brakes on saws. But anyhow, on anything larger than a 361 we generally sell it with regular non safety RSC for stihl and whatever the oregon/husky equivalent is for the husqvarna saws.

Man, he really wanted you to just go away...:biggrinbounce2:

to add one last little tidbit, our stihl dist. told us we may end up having to get customers to sign a waiver to buy non safety chain in the not too distant future.

Hey Gary, have you found any ATK dealers that good?
And what do I need to look for to buy a good saw at a decent price on eBay?
I know you guys are buying up allot of those saws on there.:newbie:
Chuck
PS, thanks for coming by the ATK site! Don’t give up on us; it is not as busy as this place:rockn:

This sucks. Most people that know enough to ask for pro saw chain know what the risks associated with its use are. I have heard that on saws less than 3.7 cubes you must sell it with 3 instead of two anti-kickback features per ANSI standards, but I thought it could be a reduced kickback bar, front handguard and chainbrake instead of chainbrake, reduced kickback bar and low kick chain. Its dumb cause low kickj chain will still tear you up and is still fully capable of kickback. I can't name names but I know of a local dealer that sells even the little 192Ts with yellow label chain. Why shouldn't they be able to? Have we totally lost our common sense? A saw is a dangerous tool, and anyone who wants additional safety features should have them available. I guess Stihl as a private company has a right to do whatever is in their financial interests, but pro users are their bread and butter. I do not like the government mandating safety chain or similar equipment...
