Has anybody used the New England Rope's Safety Pro? I personally use Safety Blue, but if this rope has good knot control I would consider it. If it is like Arbor Plex than forget it.
Perhaps a bit old fashioned, but I like the safet blue 3-strand. It seems to me it hold up better and last longer, and the knots work just fine fo rme...
PB, They make it just for the oldfashioned. Safety Blue 3 strand is a great rope but for climbing I think braided beats it in just about every way (and I've climbed on both). There was a time when I thought SB 3 was just about the ultimate lowering line.-It is good and very long wearing but I've come to prefer the braids for that application as well.
Haven't used Safety Pro. I have it's predecessor, and cousin to Arborplex, called Treeline. It is much softer than APlex, so is easy knotting. I think it would be fine for a lifeline, but I only use it for light rigging. The new stuff is 12 strand with a core, retains the nobby feel of 12 versus 16 strand, and should stay round due to its core. I'm sure it would be a good line.
So if you haven't bought a new Hobbs or GRCS and you still use the Maasdam Long Haul rope puller, you're old fashioned but you have a use for a good three strand because the rope puller works better with 3 strand. New England Safety Blue 3 strand works fine with the puller. 12 & 16 strand ropes tend to slip early as the drum on the Maasdam was designed for using 3 strand. Some are scared off by the price of the GRCS but once they use it they wonder how they got by without one.
I too have used Treeline for a number of years. It has a much better hand than Arborplex and doesn't glaze as easily. But, it is still a 12 strand hollow braid and tends to flatten after extended use.
I have been wanting to try Safety Pro 12 for awhile and just got a new bag today. It has the rugged, nubby feel of a 12 strand, but, as RB ponted out, it has a core, and should remain round even after extended use. Out of the bag it feels great and seems to form and hold knots very well. I plan to use it it as a light lowering line.
If you are still interested in SP 12 and want to know how it performs let me know and I'll post again in a few weeks.
