Well your last paragraph is bull####....the locals can handle most anything....FEMA is a political entity and they make up bull#### guidelines to take care fo big business. For example, they put requirements on what size grinder you need to have on some jobs. What is the difference if I have a 700hp grinder and it takes me a day longer than the guy with a 1000hp grinder? So they hire someone from 300 miles away to do the job I could have easily done with what i have.

oops I was talking about the guy you replied to....sorry

Huh you lost me ?

I would think that any storm that claimed human life should not be considered "good" no matter what profit was made or being refered to in context, I plead you to re-title your post, how about "I sold my trucks and in the market for newer ones" "Sandy was Good" only devaluates human life, and property lost, Oh and then move it to the heavy equipment forrum,
Paul

Why does everyone want to jump on the "blame" game when things go wrong. Ok...someone profited from a bad situation....and to the gentleman who asked about cops, first responders, firefighters and military....last time I checked...those are all positions they volunteered or chose to do. I am glad we have them. Me...I don't necessarily need anyone to take care of me...I don't mind taking care of myself. Which is my point....we need to learn to take care of ourselves again....and not count on the cops, first repsonders, fire fighters and military....there was a time when we all took care of each other.

Now you have many businesses that provide services for profit for the unfortunate.....do you blame the auto body guy from profiting from someone's misfortune....do you blame the insurance companies for profited by promoting fear and paying outrageous payouts...and then raising premiums....the booze makers for peddling their wares that destroy families.

In my opinion, the tree guys take the short end of the stick for risking their lives daily to make other lives safer. Why shouldn't they profit from a storm?

I don't know why people are getting bent over this, maybe there is politics at work behind the scenes or something, but I can't say for sure, more than likely it's bureaucracy's doing, because, all things being equal, everyone has the same opportunity to respond to something like Sandy, whether they live at ground zero or on the other side of the country. All that matters is resources or the lack there of.

So why didn't everyone who's whining go and do the job??? I think that would make for better discussion than blowing off steam at each other.
