Hi and thanks for all the recent input, very helpful.

I have a few questions

1. I have a new alaskan mill arriving any day. Are there any assymbly tips? It's aluminium so I thought I would see if any of you have screwed up a part or two putting it together. Is there anything in general to watch out for?

2. I have read here to "run it a bit rich" is this with carb adjustment or add a bit more oil to the fuel mix?

3. I have read here that some of you use premium fuel and the maker's brand name 2cyclle oil only, is there anything to gain from premium gass?

4. I plan to use the standard bar clamp to get me up and running, But soon I will want to mount the mill to the bar, is this a good idea with the double ended bar? or should I get a sprocket tip bar when I decide to do this.

5. OK this is an odd one, about a month ago this website shows up on my computer in Spanish, anyone else having this problem?

Thanks again for all the help

First of all scroll down this page to bottom left and set language to English US.The mill assebles easy and is easy to use but I noticed using it with the logs on the ground is uncomfortably and the fumes get you.I would try to get them logs up on something.

As every saw and mill comb is different so the vibe is different. Vibe is important as it vibrates nuts loose on the mill. This means doing them up tight, but obviously on ally not too tight. For non-adjustable nuts you may want to consider using some Loctite. I recommend assembly on a flat surface so that the whole thing assembles square. If it does not assemble square it will not cut square and bind the mill/bar in the cut. Check the planes made by the bar and mill rails are parallel,

2. I have read here to "run it a bit rich" is this with carb adjustment or add a bit more oil to the fuel mix?
Everyone should so do the former and most do the later. Bear in mind that manufacturers have already been modest with the oil/gas ratios of 50:1 but if you want to be more generous then 40:1 is more than enough. Any more than this and you will just fog yourself with unburnt lube and other additives.

3. I have read here that some of you use premium fuel and the maker's brand name 2cyclle oil only, is there anything to gain from premium gass?
Once again I recommend the manufacturers specification. Premium has more of an effect on long term storage of fuel. As the fuel ages its octane rating decreases so starting out with a higher octane rating means it will last longer. I use premium anyway.

If you use a double ended bar you will need a helper handle with built in sprocket and then this means bolting the bar to the mill past the helper handle. This loses any gain in cutting width obtained by drilling through a nose sprocket centre. It depends if you intend to mill alone in which case a helper handle is just more weight and then I'd go with a sprocket nose bar.
