Is a saw modded differently if it's used for ripping? Not milling, but cutting side grain. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. Also if you had a 365 and a 372XP which would you mod for this task? Hangin around here could get expensive :p

It shouldn't matter what you're using a saw for as to the mods done. Muffler mods help a saw run cooler, which for milling, is likely very helpful. And ripping is not an easy task, either, I reckon.

A 365 is not a pro saw, and it has open transfer ports, versus close on the 372. But some of our saw builders report large gains from similar saws. If you already have either, mod em, why wait? Dozer Dan is in your neck o' th' woods, go fer it!!! or go home... ;-0))

Nice avatar, fella....Eddie Murphy would hope you've been gettin' some trimmm, non?

A saw that is built for milling will have less exhaust to make the saw have more torque. You don't want high revs ie 12k + in the cut. Also, chain set up is very important.

I'm using a full comp chain now and not having any problems, planning on trying a skip chain. What mods are you suggesting?

RB Yup I got them both and one is destined for some work. The 365 is NIB and the 372 is just breaking in. Now I'm thinking PP the 372, sell the 365 and get a 385 or even a 395. I need to be cuttin faster and making more noise :D

The 365 went through some changes. It seems that the first ones all had the open transfer ports and newer ones have the closed loop, like the 372. I am not exactly sure as to why Husky doesn’t claim that it is a Pro saw. It is the exact same saw as the 372 except for the bore size and a different carb. Yes it does have a single ring piston but so do the 346,357 and they call those models Pro saws.
Your 338 barrel is going through the rinse cycle as I am typing.

I will be in New York on the weekend of the 18th.If you are interested in having your saw ported, I could meet you someplace.

Dan, right now any day ending in y is a workday for me, so it would be tough to meet you on the 18th, unless you are coming near putnam/westchester county. I'm serious about the saw though and will send you an email this weekend.

Kneejerk, LMAO! She's a cutie :D I'm not sure a ripping chain is what I want as I'm ripping, but not the same way a miller would

Hey Dan!!!

Did ya toss in some softener in the rinse cycle, I hope!!

I saw a 338 at the local saw shop. The muffler looked a bit different, and there was no deflector for the exhaust which looked to be aiming up.... Ludicrous design, I'd say. Of course I know you are doing it the right way.
