When you guys transport your saws to the woods or job site, do you ever remove the bar and chain? Reason I'm asking, is because I've been trying to figure out the best way to carry my saws in one compartment of my truck. Removing the B/C would make it much easier for me, and I figure it would only be a minute or two, to reinstall. Ive sent a pic of the compartment.

I don't see a problem if you don't mind putting back on
I modded my compartment to accept my saws in full length.
Oh no now we will have a compartment mod thread

Man I would love to but I have not figured out how yet
but I had adjoining compartments and just cut a large hole in
the divider it was simple but worked well.

I am on dialup but looked at your compartment is there
another one beside what I did was cut the bottom of the divider!

I used to but found it too time consuming. Your cabinet looks good, I think I would cut and fit some rubber mats in it though.

I carry my Husky saw and stuff in a Husky Powerbox, made for it. The saw with bar attached is securely velcro-strapped in and the box has room for extra chains, files, tools, oil, etc. The box comes with a bar cover that fits firmly into one end of the box. I like it because I can carry everything in the box with one hand.

The top opens and the side folds out so it is easy to access. I don't know if other saw manufacturers have such things.

I say buy a case. I am glad I did! They have room for oil extra chain owners manual scrench and files tools extra parts etc..The husky powerbox is a very good sturdy design that opens at the front and the top. The stihl cases are good but only open from the top. The powerbox is molded for husky saws so you should see if you can get a stihl case It might work but the bottom seems to be molded to the husky saws. If you are really cramped just take off the bar and chain as you mentioned. It does not take much to take that b&C off and put it back on and it gives you an excuse to clean everything out good. If you have room I would buy a good case.

Having a case for your saw or saws is the way togo. For my 385 I took a stihl case and rotozipped the top partially, covered the hole with plexiglass and a piece of foam. Close the lid grab saw by handle and your good to go.
