Hello all, I'm new here, and have seen some very interesting and valuable information among the posts. Hopefully you can all help me. I'm an average consumer, looking for some used chainsaw's in good condition. A life long family friend has three saws that they can no longer utilize. The first is a Mcculloch Mac 3200, 16" saw, about 10 years old. It has less than 10 hours on it, still almost new other than it's age. The second is a Homelite 20" Super XL, I believe early '80's model. It is also in very good condition. The third is a Homelite 20" XL500, in good condition. The Super XL appears to be just the newer model of the XL500.

All the saws have been stored in cases and in the basement of their house most of their life. They are all in very good mechanical and running condition. The problem is neither one of us know what they are worth. I have watched ebay, and I don't know if that has provided good information. I have seen one Mac 3200 sell for $33.50, and two red Super XL's for $71 and $65. These selling values seem low to me, especially since I know they are in very good condition. Does anyone see these sell frequently in their area that can provide some input about selling price and value? Thanks in advance.

Again, I'm not looking to use these all the time. Just the downed tree, or cutting down something dead, etc. Not for logging or daily trimming, just occassional use.

If the Super XLs were nice, I'd pay it

Mine's not pretty, but she runs like new. I got mine 5 years ago or so at a garage sale. I paid $20, but the bar, chain, and spocket were shot. Your deal may be better.

I'm not collecting, and new is out of the question for no more than I will use them and the price that accompanies a new saw. The two you mention are probably over $200 each, I'm guessing. I'm partcularly interested in these because I was hoping to get the Mcculloch and the Super XL both for about the price of one new lower quality 16" saw. I would like to have a pair, the smaller 16" for trimming and brush, the larger 20" for larger ground work that may be too small for the 16. I know how these have been taken care of, and tinkering doesn't bother me, so the ages doen't bother me.

Any thoughts on the ebay prices? Knowing the condition I have already offered $150 for the pair, $50 for the Mcculloch and $100 for the Super XL. From what I have seen, that seems fair. But I'm looking for more sales information that I can show as well. Even though the saws are in great condition, age does play a factor, especially when it comes to replacement parts that may be obsolete. How easy are these to get parts for?

It i s hard to put a value on a saw that is above average. The SXL is worth from $50-$100. As for the Mac I cannot see giving much for a saw that is still found new for $89.99. I have a 3200 here that I cannot get the da''' bar studs out of. I gave $5 for it, it was a waste of $5.

Gotta agree with Bill

Just get one of the Super XLs and call it a day. It's small enough to do piddly work, but big enough to tackle some serious cutting. That was my only saw for a long time, and still is my primary.

Forget the Mac.
