I haven't cut wood in a year or so, but when I did, I ran a Husky 394 with a 20" bar the marjority of the time. Now, this was probably because of my inept sharpening ability, but I really appreciated the grunt of the big Husky. Anyone want to tell me how stupid I was?

hmm, a few words come to mind, but stupid is a little ways down on the list ;)

I got a 394 too, but it is sharp. Of course your not stupid, no replacement for displacement.

I have run my 395 a fair bit over the last 4 or 5 years, so I'll take a poke.

You're not stupid, of course. But although I absolutely love my 395 and I consider it as strong as my 066, I think of grunt as midrange power and the 395 isn't particular amazing in that way. My 066 has more grunt, and for it's size my 7900's have even more grunt. But if you keep the revs up a bit on the 395 is is strong and sweet.

Secondly with a sharp chain on a bar as short as 20 inches, a 90+cc saw cuts so easily that you wouldn't even know if it had grunt.

Having said all that, I treasure my 395 and can run it for hours on end as it is so smooth in my hands. My 066 has my hands tingling after a while. But these saws pretty much never see a bar shorter than 32 and generally wear a 36. And sometimes a 42.

The real grunt with my 395 is me packing it around full of gas and oil with a 36 inch Canon bar. Weighs a ton.

My younger bro uses his 660 wearing a 20 inch bar and just loves it but for the type work/ while baby bro uses one of my 066's with a 32 or 36 and he's happy with that,,,,, he ought to be since I let him use it????

so there is something to be said for a big motor with a short bar,,,

but no mule,,,,,that doesnt make you stupid.....

A little whacked maybe????

My 066 spends most of its time with a 24, because that is what Bailey's had on sale. I would have taken a 20 just as fast. Just bought a 16 for it...just for fun you know.

Honestly, as someone else mentioned, you can't beat cubic inches. I love the 066/24" combo. Last fall I got to use a 600 watt per channel amplifier on my little bookshelf speakers with 6" woofers...amazing. Power is an amazing thing.
