What did they wrong?

2 things.....he could have gone a little higher and taken a smaller top, but the main problem is the groundman did not let it run. with a good groundman you can take a top that size and as long as he lets it run down a ways the tree would not rock like that.

ok. first and main default is by the groundman, but you see also that the treeworker had no helmet with belt. Hopefully not too much hurts

I'm glad you reposted this. I was searching today to find this to show to my guys. I was doing some test climbs today teaching some of the groundies to climb. We pulled out the Porta Wrap and I decided to be the dumby and let them lower me down. It took a try or two but I think they finally got it. I just ran up the rope and to a high point and then jumped. Sounds very scary but it realy wasn't, supervision was at the bottom and I was hooked up with a lifeline and a belay man. They finally got the port a wrap figured out I think! :blob2:

I had a cottonwood something like that today, one of those where you want to haul the big saw up into it.

I had these big long laterals (are there any others in those PITA's) over 2 roofs, the only way to take them was to catch them on the block, and the spar was long and whippy. Did not quite knock me off my spurs, but it was one L of a ride!
