Scoring wood

You guys ever stick flyers or business cards on doors at houses with down trees or trees that are being taken down by a tree service stating you are interested in taking the wood. Seems like it might be an easy way to get some free wood or maybe get some money for cleaning up the mess

I haven't stuck any notes on doors but I have taken down the address then written letters. Made one score a couple years after I had written the letter, several good sized black locusts and only 11 miles from the house.

I've knocked on doors a few times. Present yourself well and it always works unless the wood already has a home. Flyers or business cards don't let the homeowner get a look at who they are allowing on their property. And a conversation also allows you to get a feel for the homeowner, who could be a nut job just as much as he could be a decent guy.
