Greets Gents.A little off topic.......thinking about building a small home out of Aspen or Red Pine logs.I have seen Allen Mackie's homes and was wondering if the loggers here know of any tips for log construction.I need to study up and look into various designs. Thanks for reading/replies.Cheerio.

Log home construction is *totally* different from regular construction.

The problem is the logs "settle" over time.

So everything needs to be installed so it can take this into account.

The door frames need to allow the logs to move downwards around the doors. Same with windows. If the logs settle on a window, the window will break. You need groves in the sides and extra space at the top for the logs to be able to move downwards around the windows.

And kitchen cabinets mounted on an outside log wall need to be installed so they are adjustable "upwards". As the logs settle, you need to be able to raise the cabinets back up to the height they should be.

Best to get a pro to design the whole works like the following...
